Use the drawings found on this page to standardize fabrication, installation and construction methods for specific items of work. They complement the contract documents and the Standard Specifications for Road, Bridge and Municipal Construction.
The Standard Plans Manual offers three options:
Each plan contains PDF version of the plan and a ZIP file containing the CAD files (.dgn & .dwg) of the respective plan.
An underlined plan identifier, for example B-5.20 (PDF 33KB), is a technical commentary for that plan.
The next Standard Plans Manual revision, due approximately September 2022, will be posted to this page.

Changes in laws, regulations and policies prompt these revisions, as do the requirements to keep pace with evolving technology and to align with policy documents from federal transportation agencies. See the overview of the Standards process and see how the Standard Plans are prioritized.
Future Standard Plans are those approved for publication and are awaiting the next installment of a revision package.
WSDOT continues, in cooperation with FHWA, our implementation of the AASHTO Manual for the Assessment of Safety Hardware (or MASH). MASH is the new national standard for crash testing and design of new roadside barrier. With the MASH implementation schedule now complete, the Design Office has recently removed a number of standard plans that do not represent MASH compliant design, while new designs are in development and published over time. In the meantime, these plans can be viewed on the Plan Sheet Library, and may be incorporated into projects upon review and on a case by case basis.

Each drawing has been prepared under the direct supervision of a professional engineer, licensed in the state of Washington, knowledgeable in the specialized field of civil engineering depicted in that drawing. These drawings standardize fabrication, installation, and construction methods for specific items of work, and complement the contract documents and the Standard Specifications for Road, Bridge, and Municipal Construction. Discover the many factors when considering prioritizing the development of a standard plan. Contrary to popular belief, the frequency of use is not the primary driver. Our standard plans are an extension of WSDOT’s design policy. As we change our Design Manual to address new practices or requirements, our plans must reflect these changes.
as recorded by WSDOT and partners in 2020 and 2021.
